Pictures of a Beautiful Fall Foliage Season

Even though Fall has been a disappointment to me this year, I did get out and try to take some photos at my favorite spot. I drove back to the lake where I used to live and of course the sun disappeared as I began to take photos. Everything looked dull without the sun to enhance the color, but the colors just were not all that impressive anyway.

Maybe I have been spoiled by the couple of years that gave us such brilliant color, or maybe my expectations are just too high. It’s easy to miss the peak color when days turn cloudy and storms blow through at just the time you realize how lovely it all looks. Fall is the most fleeting season, and it’s a shame.

As I was driving around last weekend, I saw lots of tourists with cameras (they looked like tourists anyway) out photographing the foliage, but I wondered what they were thinking. Were they impressed?

Hoping For a Great Fall Foliage Season

I’m beginning to worry. Just a little. The Fall season is upon us – even if it’s only the 14th of September and the calendar says it begins the 22nd – I’m already hoping to see some color somewhere.

A few days ago my sister came to visit and brought her dog. We went for a walk out by the Peterborough dam, which of course is near water, and there was nothing going on – color wise. I know it’s early, but last year was such a disappointment that I think we are due a brilliant show this time!

When I lived near the lake it seemed that each year the color was spectacular. I took a ton of photos every time I went for a walk. Last year I had just moved into my new home and didn’t have the time to get out and take pictures, but truthfully, I did not see much to photograph. As I remember the color popped for about a week at the very end of the season and that was it. By then I think we were all so disappointed that we mostly missed it!

The Cog Railway took us (me and my two sons) to the top of Mount Washington in northern New Hampshire this summer.

It was quite an experience, and the day was so nice that we had fabulous views.

More pics to come, but out of time today.

Approximately 40 minutes up – spend an hour at the top – and ride down.
Get in line early to sit with your family and friends!
Take a camera and go in nice weather.

Did you know that Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler has a home on beautiful Lake Sunapee in New Hampshire? I watched the new Oprah show where she interviewed him at his home there. I almost believed that he was just a regular guy – ha! Who dresses funny. But I love water. Love lakes. Love boating. And it’s always been my dream to live on the water, so I found the interview fascinating and even more so because he has a home on a lake – that is only an hour away from me.

Before I saw the interview, I had seen local news reporters (months before) reporting that Oprah Winfrey had been spotted riding around in a car with Steven Tyler up that way. The reporter even tried to get some info from the maid? or someone at the house, but the gates remained locked for him. Sure enough, a few months later we could see what all the fuss was about. During the interview the two megastars ventured out in Tylers convertible and rode through Sunapee Harbor and out to someplace to tramp through the woods. (Bet Oprah loved that!)

But – I recognized the Anchorage restaurant they passed, where I had eaten a few times (and where S.T. met Joe Perry, I believe) and I decided to make a trip up to Lake Sunapee this summer and go out on the Harbor Cruise. My son from Florida has been visiting and we did just that this past week.  We also ate at the Anchorage.
