A prolific knitter needs a big collection of project bags. (Also perfect for crocheters and crafters of all kinds!) I have used anything from a paper bag, and zip lock bag, to Etsy handmade bags and cotton totes. I’ve purchased bags from craft fairs, my own store, and have used bins and baskets to organize. I hate to say this, but I am a knitter who usually has a few unfinished projects stashed away someplace.
I try not to start a big project and not get it done. I don’t want to forget what I’m doing. But, it’s another story if I knit mittens or socks. Sometimes I start a project and don’t really like the yarn I chose. I can’t decide whether to keep going, or rip it out. So I hide it away – then I don’t have to decide! Of course, eventually I’m faced with it again.
Choose From Four Bag Styles
In my Narrow Road Designs online shop, I have created designs for a knitting bags collection. Large, custom tote bags would work very well for holding knitting projects. Large bags come as affordable 100% cotton with design limited to the front only.
The all-over-print (AOP) totes come as lined, open bags, or as adjustable strap, cross-body bags with sections inside . The design covers the bags and each style comes in two sizes.
I also have matching zippered bags to carry notions and knitting tools. These are easy to personalize and would make lovely gifts for knitters, crocheters, and any fiber artist. They come in two sizes – 8×6 or 8×12 inches.

100% Cotton Tote Bag
The more affordable custom knitting tote bag is made of 100% cotton and measure approximately 15 x 15″. It is hand washable, and is not lined, but has customizable handle colors. Catch these bags on sale and stock up to hold a yarn stash or individual craft projects. Designs are limited to a square section on the front and back, or one side only (even more affordable!). The designs do not transfer well to the AOP bags, but most matching designs are also made for those AOP bags.

The AOP totes come in medium and large sizes. The patterns and designs also transfer seamlessly to the cross-body bag (read about that below).
The AOP Cross-Body Bag
All AOP tote designs will transfer to the cross-body bags (which are more expensive). They measure 16″ or 18″and have three interior pockets, one of which has a zipper. The strap is adjustable for comfort.
The bags below are cross body styles. Choose which style you prefer as these designs work on both the regular AOP tote and the cross-body bag.
