Two Days of Snow On The Way

And 2 Feet Coming!
Well, I have kept the path cleared to my front door this winter and it hasn’t been easy. The plow guy pushes all the driveway stuff right up into the front of the house which means I have to shovel through that. Then the roof emptied it’s load onto the front steps and that was a heavy bunch of stuff to shovel. Now up to 2 feet of snow is expected over the next 2 days and I’m wondering how high I can pile the stuff and what will happen when the next batch falls off the roof?
Winter has come all at once to New Hampshire.

Blue Snow

When one and a half feet of snow fell last week, I kept seeing this blue tint in the mounds.

I enhanced this photo a bit in picasa to bring out the blue better so it actually wasn’t quite this bright.

I am not a scientific type person, so I’ve added a link underneath the photo to explain why snow (and ice) sometimes looks blue. I just thought it was unusual and pretty.

Ice Fishing With Kids

bob houses

Ice fishing huts, called “bob houses” on New Hampshire’s Gregg Lake. Someone told me they get their name from the way they bob up and down in the water if left out when the ice gives way.

This was the coldest field trip I have even participated in. The wind whipped across the lake and the temp. was in the single digits – not including the wind chill.

Winter Trees

If I were poetic I would add a great poem here, but I’m not, so I hope you enjoy the photo.

I don’t know what kind of tree this is, but it had little dangly things hanging all over (like that description?) and the snow on it’s branches was so awesome looking. This photo is one of my favorites from my walk.

Winter Trees

Now the trees are bare after our rain and wind – (it’s dumb to rain in winter isn’t it?). I am looking forward to getting another snow storm.
