Summer at The Lakes In New Hampshire

With only a few short months to swim, boat, vacation and enjoy the warmth up here in New Hampshire, the lakeside communities get filled up and busy quickly.
The photo below was taken a few years ago near the docks in Meredith on Lake Winnipesaukee.  (Aerial view to the right.)
My “New England” blog is suppose to have photos of this area of the country, but I have been remiss in providing them. I’ve become caught up in moving and home improvements and haven’t ventured out anywhere.
So the photo is old, but I’ll bet that the Lakes Region will be jumping soon if it’s not already.
When my son comes to visit this summer, I want to take him out on the MS Mount Washington – the boat that cruises the big Lake Winni.
I hope to begin living like normal people this year and actually take a break and much needed vacation time for myself. Then I will have some New England photos to share here.

Pictures of the Manor at Squam Lake, NH

During my one night stay at the Manor on Golden Pond in Holderness, New Hampshire, I took a few photos of the place. My daughter is planning to have her small wedding here.

I was so impressed with my room. The view (if you haven’t read my other page, see it here) was really nice and the weather cooperated with bright sunshine. I could see the mountains way off in the distance and watch boats skim by on our little section of Squam Lake.

Room with fireplace
The Windsor Room has a fireplace.

Some of the rooms have wood-burning fireplaces and mine did. I did not start a fire- that does not appeal to me after running my wood stove all winter! But my daughter and her sweetie had one in their room and said it was great.

I certainly did enjoy my big queen size bed which was the most comfortable bed I think I’ve ever slept in. And I loved that gorgeous view of the New Hampshire countryside. I could have stayed for a lot longer if time and money had allowed.

Tea and sandwiches
Tea is served at 4:00 each day.

Each afternoon tea and crumpets are served. Not really, but tea and little sandwiches are! I don’t know what a crumpet is so maybe it was also included.

The wait staff personnel are from England and their soothing accents make the place feel more authentic, like we had traveled overseas and not just an hour north of home.

The Dining Room

The food we had for dinner was absolutely wonderful. I was dealing with a squeamish stomach for some reason that weekend, but I was determined to eat! And I did. I had salmon and it was the best I’ve ever eaten anywhere. My daughter and her fiance enjoyed their meals as well.
The following morning we ate a delicious breakfast that was included with our stay.

bar or pub
The Pub

The little pub was deserted so we sat at the copper bar and had a drink while we waited for dinner service to begin.
It was a wonderful and peaceful stay at a lovely English Manor. None of us wanted to leave.

A Trip to Boston

Fenway Park
Fenway Park, Red Sox Game

My two sons who live out of town came to visit me this summer and while they were here they went to Boston with their sister and her boyfriend to see a Red Sox / Rangers game at Fenway. They all love baseball (well, my daughter not so much), but they love the city too and had a great time – and sunny, warm weather for the short trip. My son took a ton of photos during the game and I think that this one is a pretty good shot showing the “green monster”.

How nice that Nick found a cigar smoking buddy.

Going on a Call?

My son, Nick, is a firefighter in Florida so he had to snap this shot of the Boston fire department’s truck running a call. He also took a photo of one of the fire hydrants and a wall hydrant. Funny.

Of course they had to visit “Cheers” and they all drank water I guess!

They had a blast even if it was only for a couple of days. The weather was great and I got a break from all their bickering! Ha ha!

St. Augustine Photos

St. Augustine, Florida

For the past twelve years or so I have not taken a vacation. I haven’t planned a get away and just relaxed at a nice place for at least that long. This year is no different. My kids came to visit me, which has been so nice, but not at all relaxing. Siblings quarrel and eat lots and are constantly on the go.

My second to oldest son came up from Florida where he had just spent a weekend in St. Augustine with his girlfriend. It’s one of my favorite places to visit and not too bad (tourist wise) if you choose an “off” time to visit – whenever that might be. He took some photos of the old houses there as well as the much photographed Castillo de San Marcos Spanish fort which was built using coquina rock.

Just thought I’d share.
