My Rock By The Lake

All my life I’ve chosen “favorite spots” to go to when I need a break or to be rejuvenated. A place that is quiet and peaceful where I can take time to think or not think.
My latest spot is this rock by the lake. Except for the summer months, there is no one around when I go here and the view of the lake is perfect.
Once I sat here an watched a loon dive under the water and over and over only to surface in some surprise spot. They stay under water for quite a while, like little submarines.
Being outdoors keeps me sane and no matter what the season I greatly appreciate the fresh air, my ability to walk and see the glorious world around me.

Ice Fishing With Kids

Ice fishing huts, called “bob houses” on New Hampshire’s Gregg Lake. Someone told me they get their name from the way they bob up and down in the water if left out when the ice gives way.

This was the coldest field trip I have even participated in. The wind whipped across the lake and the temp. was in the single digits – not including the wind chill.

New England Autumn

The very best time of year (in my opinion) is here…it comes along so quickly and each good day must be cherished because the frigid temperatures are on the way.  I do like the snow, but all color fades for the winter so this is our burst – the foliage – to hold us over till next Spring.

Canadian Geese and Goslings at the Lake

Luckily I took my camera to the bus stop this morning because two families of Canadian Geese had just decided to cross from one side of the lake to the other.

Once the bus left, I managed to get a few shots. My camera isn’t too good (or maybe it’s just me!) at getting the zoom shots, but you can see how cute the babies are..and big! They were tiny just a few days ago.

One family, mom, dad and four babies, decided to swim under the bridge to get to the other side.

And the other, larger family, decided to walk across the road. This is a rural area which makes it a safe place for geese to raise their babies. I love seeing them although some people think geese are a nuisance.

Do you know why geese fly in a V formation? Check out the answer here.
My question is this; When they swim in a line, who leads? The dad or the mom? Or do they take turns?
