Halloween is quiet here. Not many trick-or-treater’s come to my neighborhood. I may give out 6 candy bars. That’s my guess. So I buy big candy, since I can afford to.

Beware of black cats that may cross your path tonight while Trick-or-Treating, or don’t you believe in the black cat folklore?

Personally I think black cats are beautiful. They cross my path daily, and I’m still here to tell about it! At shelters, most cats are black, because people don’t want to take the chance of bringing bad luck into their homes. Ahhhh… this is how the world is now.

STAY SAFE KIDS! And may you get lots of good candy in your treat bags.

Awesome Animals in Nature Photography

If you’re in the market to view, or use, cute animal photography, I know a place that has many useful images. The photos on this page all came from the Pixabay site, and I think they are some of the cutest animals in nature you’ll see anywhere. And the best thing is that you (or anyone) can use these photos for any purpose. They are in the public domain and can be used for personal or commercial projects / designs.

The photographer who goes by the name “tpsdave” is one of my favorites and he provided this bear cub picture, and the one of the moose. He also offers an array of other types of images which are just as stunning.

LoggaWiggler is another of my favorite photographers with many useful and super cute images at Pixabay, like the one below of fluffy baby geese.

The site is growing with more images added every day and if you are a photographer, why not add some of your pictures to share with the world?

And last but not least, a cute squirrel photo submitted to Pixabay by yours truly (dustytoes).

A Visit From Three Deer, Backyard Photos

Doe a Deer

We had three deer that visited the backyard a few weeks ago. Back before our week long summer weather preview, with temps in the 80’s, we had some snow on the ground and one morning I noticed my cat sitting on the deck and peering intently  into the woods. I knew that she saw something interesting and then a little head popped up over the edge of the drop-off and it was a deer! Our backyard is pretty small, with a drop into the woods beyond. The house was built on the side of a hill and fill dirt makes up the yard. The deer was on the banking and peeking up to look at the house.
I ran to get the camera and then headed upstairs where I’d have the best view of the backyard.

All the pictures were taken out my upstairs bathroom window, so they are not as clear as I’d like.

I know that seeing deer is not all that unusual, but I always love to see them. They had their thick winter coats and kept looking toward the house as if they wanted to come up and sniff out the birdfeeders. One came very close while the other two stayed down in the woods.

Relocating a Little Bat

This little bat was hanging out up in the eaves of my house and he had to be removed when the guys were doing the siding. One day when Brandon was here working, he asked me if he could hook up the hose to spray the eaves where he could hear squeaking. He said that they had just had to deal with bats at another job and spraying water made them leave.

It took a while – and I was inside, but the bat finally came out and was cold, so he put it in a box and brought it over to the sun in the driveway.  I felt bad for the poor little thing who had a nice place to sleep and suddenly he was sprayed with cold water!  But I can understand why the guys didn’t want to work with a bat in their faces.

The little guy crawled out and sat in the sun for about 20 minutes and then flew away. I was watching him from inside with my binoculars and he’d shake himself and flap his wings and then suddenly he flew off across the yard and into the woods next door.

I hope he finds a new place nearby to hang out. I like the idea of having bats around for bug control.
