Don’t You Just Love the Snow?

Christmas mailbox
Heading South!

Every time I mention that I moved to the north FROM Florida, people give me an incredulous look. You did what?

Well, it wouldn’t help to try to explain my reasons – Florida is paradise in their eyes. So I just let them think there is something wrong with my way of thinking.

Back in the winter of 2010, when I was renting a duplex, I had a mailbox attached to a tree by the driveway. To make the place feel more homey I attached two red, velvety ribbons to each side. When the snow fell, this is what it looked like. I went out to shovel and saw how pretty it looked and went back to get my camera. I ended up taking a lot of winter photos that year of the lake and the Girl Scout Camp, but this one is one of my favorite.

My photos bring back bittersweet memories. I hated renting, but my landlady was a good friend to me. I never felt settled, even after three years there, but I loved the area with all it’s nature to enjoy.

Each time I see this new address postcard I wonder if the people who buy it are moving to the north and snow, or away from it.

I decided to add the blue text for this post, but I suppose I could make a humorous card like that too!

Sharing My Photos of Winter White

Snow Cat

Short and sweet post today to show off my favorite snow, white, and winter pictures.

I took these myself over the past years and they were all taken at different addresses, back when I lived like a nomad. I’m so glad those days are over, but it gave me the opportunity to check out parts of the state I would not have ever known so well. Some I am glad to be away from, and others I miss.

And I miss my cat, Richie. That picture was taken at my last rental on the back porch. I couldn’t believe the cat stayed outside while the snow covered him, but he was a hunter and couldn’t tear himself away. It made a cool photo.

Christmas Last Year

Christmas Fun 2010

Christmas day last year, 2010, was spent in my rental house. In fact we did Christmas a week late since my daughter was sick Christmas day. We spent the day with my daughter and her boyfriend and his daughter and my son. There was plenty of snow and we went outside to try out the new sleds and snowshoes once the presents were unwrapped.

At the time, I was not sure if I’d be living in that duplex for another five years or what would happen. As it turned out I was able to get into a home of my own where we will spend the holidays this year. It’s a good feeling to have my own place again. My kitchen is big so I can make cookies and have room to spread my mess out all over the place!

Snow is coming tonight, so maybe we will have a white Christmas after all.

New Hampshire’s October Snowfall – The First One!

October snow in New Hampshire
New Hampshire October Snowfall

Our first snow of the season fell in New Hampshire on October 28th and in my area (the Monadnock region) we got a couple of inches. It was heavy wet snow and with lots of leaves still on the trees – isn’t it still Fall? -branches were heavy and drooping.

When I went out to brush off my car, it was like being in the middle of a snowball fight as the big Oak tree that hangs over my driveway dropped it’s snow bombs when the wind blew! (photo below – I took these photos early in the morning)

The Oak Tree is Still Full of Leaves

My title here says “the first one” because we are expecting more snow today – October 29th. In fact, the forecast is for 6-10 inches with 12 inches in the higher elevations.   I hope all you leaf-peepers have seen the leaves because they will be covered with white soon.…..Yikes – I am not ready for this yet. I still need to get my driveway graded and the house is only partially sided. I knew when I bought this run down place that I had limited time to make improvements before winter hit, but I did think I’d have until around December – November at least!
