Red Barn in Winter

A couple of years ago we rented a house just outside of Concord, NH and in winter I had a partial view of this barn out behind my house.

I love to hike in the winter even though it’s a bit tricky when not following a trail or road, because you never know what lies beneath the deep snow. But the leafless trees give great views to places otherwise unseen.
I ventured out into the woods and navigated the little stream to get this shot of the red barn. It seemed like the perfect country winter photo to me.

Dimond Hill Farm

On the outskirts of Concord, NH is a big yellow farm that sits on top of a hill – Dimond Hill, named after the original owner, Ezekiel Dimond.  He sold the land to Joseph Abbott in 1827, but the farm retains the original owners name.    The farm has been in the Abbott family for 6 generations and you can read about it here.

I lived near there last year and it’s where I bought a lot of my fresh veggies and even bought a frozen peach pie. They sell what most farms sell – local homemade goodies & in-season vegetables, and also buckets of ice cream, but what I loved most was the view! So one day I brought my camera along and took this photo.

I tend to think that these northerners take for granted this beauty since most of them have always lived here, but it might not be true.

Our Lake’s Seaplane

New Hampshire Sea Plane postcard
Since it doesn’t really go in the sea, I’m not sure what to call this little plane, but the guy who flies it seems to have a great time.

From what I can tell, this house sits empty most of the year, like many of them around the lake near my place. They are small camp-type places and when the lake is frozen and the north wind is blowing I guess there are better places to live.

I rented a house just beyond the plane owners place last Fall. We were only there for about a month, but my kids and I thought it was cool to watch the pilot and his young companion taxi up the river into Gregg Lake. He went by in front of our place to get out onto the open water for take off. We could hear him flying around and occasionally see the yellow plane circling overhead. After a while we would hear the plane taxiing back home.
