Fall is Gone Too Fast

Leaves and Pumpkin

Fall is here, in fact it is almost gone in my neck of the woods. Many trees are now bare, but some still hold onto yellow and orange leaves. The oak in front of my house is mostly green still, so it may be a while before I finish raking leaves.

I haven’t even bought a pumpkin yet. The photo I included here is from last year or maybe the year before. Money is tight, and to splurge on fall decorations like a pumpkin doesn’t seem anything but wasteful to me. I don’t have little kids who would want to carve it, and since we don’t even get Trick-or-Treaters, what is the point? Nature’s decorating is good enough for me.

I always tell myself that I will take long drives and find good spots for photos, but then I don’t. I did get back up to the lake for a few pictures, and that was nice, but the foliage color wasn’t even as good as I had hoped.  But I always get outdoors this time of year as much as possible.  I grabbed a blanket and had a nap in the sun out at the side yard the other day.  I’m grabbing my natural vitamin D while I can.

Pictures of Fall in Spring (Almost)

I know it is almost Spring, but there is just nothing to get photos of just yet. I searched my blog for “Fall” stuff, and couldn’t find anything! Why not? I live where the Fall season is usually stunning, but this past Fall I was busy moving into my new place and besides that, Fall was not very stunning. I hate to say it, but we missed out on some great color that we usually see. So, between being busy and not seeing any scenery that caught my eye, I didn’t get any photos. I guess that is why there are none up on my blog.

So I’ve added a shot I took when I lived near the lake in Antrim, New Hampshire (named after Antrim in Ireland – Happy St. Paddy’s Day!!!). I lived there for three Autumn seasons and every one provided glorious color so I took loads of photos. I’d walk the dirt roads and the narrow (and bumpy) lake road, and sometimes travel the Girl Scout Camp road – always on the lookout for bears! – and I usually took my camera with me, no matter what the season.

I have pictures of deer that I got just a week ago, but haven’t uploaded them yet, so please enjoy my Fall pics in Spring.

Searching For Fall Color

I’ve been watching for the leaves to change and so far I am a bit disappointed. I do see some very vivid colors in places, but not much around here where I live. The past couple of years the trees were so bright and I’d walk down by the lake almost every day to get some new photos.

So far, there isn’t much to see at the lake and when I took a walk this past week I got a shot of one tree that seems to always have good color, but it was only partially turned.

I’ve read that hot, dry summers are not good for producing great Fall color and that is exactly what we had for summer weather this year. So far, I think it might be true. I meant to take my camera and get some shots of one area where I saw some beautiful trees, but I forgot the other day and now the wind and rain has come, so I don’t know what’s left. I guess I’ll just wait and see how the color turns out.
But it is possible to get nice photos of green trees as well.
